Privacy Policy

This policy explains what OutlierScan collects, why we collect it, and what we never touch. It covers both the OutlierScan website and the OutlierScan Chrome extension. We tried to keep it short and honest.

What we collect

• Account details. Your email address and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text and we cannot read it.
• Videos you save. When you save a video to a board, we store that video and which board you put it on, so your boards work across devices.
• Public YouTube video IDs from the extension. As you browse YouTube with the extension installed, it sends the public video IDs visible on the page to our servers. We use these IDs to fetch public statistics, compute outlier scores, and show you score badges. These IDs also grow a shared database of public video statistics that all members search.
• Basic usage counts. How many scans, saves, and boards your account has used, so we can enforce plan limits.
• Thumbnail Studio images. If your plan includes Thumbnail Studio, we store the thumbnails you generate and any images you upload to it (including a face photo, if you choose to add one) so your gallery works across devices. Uploaded images are used only to create your thumbnails, are visible only to you, and are deleted when you delete them or when older items rotate out of your gallery. We send images to Google's Gemini image model to generate results; they are not used to train our systems.

What we do not collect

• We do not build a watch history tied to you. The only per-user link we keep is attribution of first discovery, meaning a record of which account first surfaced a given public video in the shared database.
• We do not collect the content of the pages you visit. The extension reads video IDs and public statistics only, never comments, messages, search text, or anything you type.
• We do not collect your general browsing data. The extension only runs on YouTube pages.

Cookies

We set exactly one cookie: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising trackers, no analytics cookies from third parties, and no fingerprinting.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. When you upgrade, you enter your card details on Stripe's secure checkout page. Card numbers never touch our servers. We only receive confirmation from Stripe about your subscription status.

Where the YouTube data comes from

All video and channel statistics shown in OutlierScan come from the official YouTube Data API and describe publicly available videos and channels. Our use of this data follows the YouTube Terms of Service. OutlierScan is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google.

Who we share data with

No one. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party. The only outside services involved are Stripe (payments) and the YouTube Data API (public video statistics), each used only for the purpose described above.

Data deletion

You can ask us to delete your account and all personal data tied to it at any time. Email support@outlierscan.com from the address on your account and we will confirm the deletion within a few business days. Public video statistics in the shared database are not personal data and stay in the database.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change meaningfully reduces your privacy, we will tell members by email first.
